Hard fought political battle at UNHCR caucus proves to be interesting

Not too long ago an UNHCR caucus was taking place where delegates had split into two alliances of Ireland and Burundi. Ireland trying to get Greece and other countries to join their alliance suggests that they were looking to gain more support for their resolution.

At this point, Canada accused Burundi of stealing and using resources from USA, but it became clear that Canada's accusation was based on their dislike towards poorer countries such as Burundi, rather than any concrete evidence. There were also rumors circulating that Burundi was using resources from the USA for its own benefit, but it is unclear whether these rumors were true.

Meanwhile, Pakistan attempted to form its own alliance, but was unable to secure enough support and ultimately decided to join Ireland's alliance. With Pakistan's support, Ireland's alliance became stronger, but it still faced a hard battle against Burundi's alliance. Pakistan proved to be very useful in providing support to Ireland but as we will soon learn it wasn’t enough.

One issue that arose during the caucus was Ireland's willingness to provide military support to Yemen. However, it was later discovered that Yemen was not actually interested in Ireland's help and may have been leading Ireland on. This shows that even when having the purest of intentions people can still take your kind actions for granted.

At the end of the day, Burundi's alliance was able to secure the resolution by a minuscule number of

three votes. It is unclear why the majority of delegates voted for Burundi’s resolution of attempting to make more girls attend school, but it is clear that Burundi's alliance was successful in pushing its agenda and gaining support from other countries.
