On April 28th the UNHCR session was held in Kehtna. The Committee discussed the issues of education rights in refugee camps for women and girls. However, when discussing
the question about how to get more girls to go to school many delegates seemed shocked and offended by some of the Turkey’s delegate’s statements.
Turkey stated that Islam is an obstacle in the education. This made quite a splash because Turkey itself is an Islamic country. ,,Religion is not chosen” stated the delegate of Germany. Burundi, Ireland, Pakistan and others expressed their disagreement on Turkey’s topic.
Later in the session Turkey’s delegate’s statements were met with furore. Are the conference’s delegates having beef with Turkey? Maybe they are forming an alliance to against the Turkey? Stay tune for more information we are reporting live from the event.
